CHIEF OF POLICE

Under the direction of the City Administrator, the Chief of Police is responsible for the overall administration and executive activity of the police department. The police chief performs a variety of complex, administrative, supervisory and professional work in planning, coordinating and directing the activities of the Police Department. It is the responsibility of the Chief of Police to foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust between citizens, community leaders and the police; forming partnerships to address problems of crime, fear of crime, drugs, and social disorder.  The work involves the efficient operation of the police department through control of its activities; to maintain order, enforce laws and ordinances and undertake initiatives to proactively prevent crime and protect lives. The Chief of Police strives to provide an ethical, people-orientated work environment where department employees may enjoy their jobs, utilize their talents, respect one another and grow as individuals.

WWTP OPERATOR 

The City of Mason will accept applications for the full-time position of Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator until 5:00 pm on Friday, January 26, 2018. A valid Michigan driver’s license is required along with a Class “B” CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements or the ability to obtain one within six months. The position requires reasonable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical, mechanical equipment, tools, and related apparatus used in a waste water treatment plant. The position also requires residency within 20 miles of the City.

POLICE OFFICER

PART-TIME CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

The Mason Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of part-time Code Enforcement Officer.

Under the supervision of the Chief of Police, the Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcement of the City of Mason Zoning Ordinances and Nuisance Codes; investigating complaints of violations; seeking voluntary compliance through education and cooperation from those found in violation of the City Code of Ordinances; initiating enforcement action, including court appearance citations; assisting the Community Development Director with conducting on-site inspections throughout the City to determine compliance with state and local codes, ordinances, and standards pertaining to health, safety and welfare.

SEASONAL-TEMPORARY GROUNDS WORKERS

The City of Mason is seeking Seasonal-Temporary Grounds Workers. This is up to a 40-hour per week seasonal/temporary position for the Department of Public Works with a pay rate of $10/hour. Job duties consist of grounds-keeping and general maintenance of City property which may include mowing and trimming using hand and riding mowers, weed whip, and other hand and power tools. Applicants must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License with a good driving record as well as the possession of a high school diploma or the equivalent. Applicants must also be able to verbally communicate with other staff and the public. Work hours are typically from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. A pre-employment physical and drug test will be performed.
